About the Artist
“Igor Levit’s pianism emerges as a force of nature” (The Guardian). “An artist who combines acute intelligence and technical panache” (Gramophone), “he asserts himself through his grasp of musical architecture, his differentiation of moods, his urgency of expression” (The New Yorker).
“Levit’s phrasing always leads your ear to something fascinating just beyond the horizon. No matter fast or slow, his imagination is consistently interesting” (Audiophilia.com). He is also “fearless, determined and fired up by monumental challenges” (BBC Music). His 53 Twitter-streamed live house concerts during the 2020 pandemic lockdown garnered a worldwide audience.
Recipient of the prestigious 2018 Gilmore Artist Award, Levit was recognized with the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in October 2020, and named Gramophone‘s 2020 Artist of the Year as well as Musical America‘s 2020 Recording Artist of the Year.
