The primary purpose of the AASPA graduation program is to recognize the accomplishments of dedicated Suzuki students and teachers throughout Georgia and to encourage them to continue to raise their sights and standards in a non-competitive environment.
The first AASPA Graduation concert was held in January 1997 at Spivey Hall at Clayton State University. The AASPA graduation program is adapted from a model used by the Talent Education Institute in Matsumoto, Japan. It rewards students in a meaningful way for their progress in the Suzuki Repertoire and gives them specific goals for each successive level. The program is open to all students and because evaluation is based on video-taped rather than live performances, it is relatively pressure free.
Formal concerts are once a year to celebrate the achievements of the students. Concerts have been held at Spivey Hall and at the Schwartz Center on the Emory University campus. Students receive a prestigious trophy and diploma marking their accomplishment. Level Ten performances of piano concertos provide a collaboration with local youth orchestras, including Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra, Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra, Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra and others. By attending the concerts, students are inspired to study at a high level and learn naturally as they model the graduates.
