About the Artist
English pianist Paul Lewis is “a self-effacing pianist never keen to show off his virtuosic prowess and, at the same time, one of the most probing artists of his generation” (Bachtrack). He creates a “precise illusion of music being less performed than revealed, or allowed to speak lucidly on its own terms” (The Boston Globe).
“Paul Lewis is one of the finest Beethoven interpreters of our time” (The Classic Review). “His playing is honest and beautifully detailed, with impressive clarity and no compromises,” praises The New York Times of his Beethoven sonata recordings. “Yet it is his imagination that carries these performances”.
Similarly, in Schubert, “Lewis’s playing is remarkable, both for technical control and depth of understanding” (BBC Music); “there is a profound humanity to the music making” (The Classic Review).
