About the Artist
“Raúl Prieto Ramírez is a colossally talented organist” (The Washington Blade). At age 27, he was named the first organist of Madrid’s National Concert Hall. From studies in his native Spain, advanced training in Germany and Russia, and work on interpretation with Marie-Claire Alain and other renowned organists, he commands a wide and deep knowledge of organ repertoire, styles, and schools.
Noted for his “great flair” and “positive, energetic style” (The Diapason), Prieto Ramírez gave “one of the most amazing and exciting recitals of the [2012 American Guild of Organists national] convention… performed from memory with élan and panache” (The American Organist).
In January 2018, “Raúl Prieto Ramírez – San Diego’s newly minted Civic Organist – played a sensational opening recital. Musically he confidently touched all the necessary bases…gleefully enjoying putting the Spreckels Organ through its paces…. his counterpoint [in Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor] sparkled with immaculate articulation, driven by a sure dramatic sense” (SanDiegoStory.com).
