About the Performer
Pianist Stephen Hough wins accolades for his “profound sensitivity and poetry” and “personal charisma” (Gramophone). His playing is “lucid, rich with colors and full of surprises” and enthralls with “a wonderful immediacy” (The New York Times).
One of the most distinctive artists of his generation, Stephen Hough combines a distinguished career as a pianist with those of composer and writer. Since taking first prize at the 1983 Naumburg Competition in New York, he has performed with many of the world’s major orchestras and given recitals at the most prestigious concert halls. Named by The Economist as one of Twenty Living Polymaths, Hough was the first classical recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship “Genius” award.
“Hough’s complete technical mastery, fresh musical insights, and deep stylistic sympathy constantly yield revelatory results” (Classics Today).
