Spivey Hall Needs You to Join Our Volunteer Usher Corps!
Are you curious about classical, jazz, or world music? Never attended a classical concert? Well, here’s your chance! Music is the most approachable form of education, and ushering is a great way to learn about music . . . for free!
What’s it all about?
What do ushers do?
Volunteer ushers take tickets at the door, greet our patrons, hand out programs, direct the audience to their seats, and make sure everyone is seated by curtain time and the audience gets back into the performance hall after intermissions. You will be given an informational sheet about your assignment at your first concert with assistance and specific instructions on how to perform your job.
What do ushers wear?
Volunteer ushers are asked to wear a white shirt (men should wear ties), black slacks or a skirt and comfortable dress shoes. There’s no need to buy any special clothing. You will be given a Spivey Hall name tag to wear over your clothes.
What kind of people volunteer to be an usher?
Spivey Hall is dedicated to reaching out to people from all parts of our diverse community. Anyone can volunteer, regardless of whether you have ever attended a concert or any type of musical performance before.
What are the benefits of being an usher?
Volunteer ushers may have an opportunity to watch the show during their assigned performance after they have completed their duties. You may also receive community service credit for schools or other organizations. Volunteers also earn service credits which can be redeemed for complimentary tickets. And you get to meet come great people who also love music and education?
Note – We typically ask that ushers arrive one hour prior to the performance for orientation and set-up. For the midweek morning Young People’s Concerts, ushers should arrive 30 minutes before the performance.
How do I sign up for the Volunteer Usher Corps?
Simply fill out the new usher form. We will send you an usher packet and information on training and how to sign up for your first performance. Please note: Volunteers who are under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult.
