Schools & Educators

Overview: Arts education is essential to the educational, social, and emotional well-being of every student. Spivey Hall offers a variety of curriculum-based performances, training opportunities, and resources for students and educators.

Performances

Educational Performances

Spivey Hall’s Young People’s Concerts (YPC) are 45-50 minutes in length and designed for audience interaction.

These performances feature collegiate choral, orchestral, and jazz ensembles, world music artists, children’s operas and much more. All ages are welcome though educators and parents are asked to note carefully the recommended grade levels for each program.

Many of the performances have study guides correlated to the curriculum with a concentration on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics).

In addition to YPCs, educators, students ages 12 and up, and groups are eligible for discounted tickets to Spivey Hall’s regular concert series which often includes pre-concert talks.

Training

Training Opportunities

Spivey Hall Children’s Choir offers professional-quality instruction in all aspects of vocal production, musicianship, and choral performance throughout the year while Spivey Hall’s Student Honor Workshops, Residencies, and Master Classes serve metro-Atlanta music educators and their students through access to renowned clinicians and musicians.

Nomination opportunities are coming soon!

Honor Workshop

Spivey Hall Student Honor Workshops

The Spivey Hall Student Choral and Instrumental Workshops began in October 1994 under the artistic direction of the legendary conductor Robert Shaw. These intensive, multi-day programs serve metro-Atlanta educators and their most capable students by providing them with the opportunity to work with renowned choral and instrumental clinicians.

The workshops expand students’ knowledge of a variety of repertoire, develop their music-reading skills, and enhance their technical abilities. Spivey Hall Student Honor Workshops seek not only to give young people the rare opportunity to perform in a world-class concert hall but also to develop their talents through music and interaction with other dedicated students.

Nominations

Students must be nominated by a music educator to participate. Nomination does not guarantee participation.  Accepted participants must commit to the full schedule.
